Young Scholars Scholarship Award
PURPOSE: The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Scholarship Committee administers the annual Young Scholars Scholarship Award to college-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need and community service.
CRITERIA: The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors who reside in a GLBC Member’s jurisdiction and intend to continue their education at a two- or four-year college or university, or technical college/trade school. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and the student’s community service record. Students should submit a scholarship application on the form provided by the GLBC Scholarship Committee (download here), a one-page essay, two letters of recommendation and a current high school transcript.
GUIDELINES: Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed at the GLBC Annual Legislative Conference held in August.
AMOUNT: Each scholarship award will be a minimum of $500.
DEADLINE: The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on July 10, 2017. After that date, applications will no longer be accepted. The GLBC Scholarship Committee uses the postmarked date to determine mailed entries.
RENEWAL PROCESS: This scholarship is not renewable. Only high school seniors intending to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university, or a technical college/trade school are eligible to apply. Previous scholarship recipients cannot re-apply.
